Parco Fluviale - Isola del Liri

Il Parco Fluviale è un percorso naturalistico, lungo circa 2 km, che collega il centro di Isola del Liri con la località Vadurso presso l’abbazia di San Domenico, al confine con Sora. Il percorso, che si snoda lungo le sponde del fiume Liri, ha inizio nel centro urbano dal ponte di Roma e prosegue nell’area verde attrezzata in cui si trova la Biblioteca Comunale Modesto Galante, tra fontane e installazioni realizzate con parti dei macchinari delle antiche cartiere. Da qui è possibile ammirare la Cascata del Valcatoio, alta 27 m, le cui acque alimentano in parte una centrale idroelettrica. Il percorso continua in salita oltre l’edificio dell’ex mattatoio comunale, lungo il pendio della collina di San Sebastiano fino a raggiungere la diga presso il castello Boncompagni-Viscogliosi. Da qui il sentiero si divide in due diramazioni. A destra si attraversa una fitta vegetazione arbustiva a ridosso del fiume Liri fino alla località Remorici, dove si trovano i resti dell’ex lanificio Ciccodicola. Proseguendo fino a Viale Barca San Domenico, in prossimità della Fiera di Sora, si possono vedere i ruderi del Ponte Marmone del I sec. a.C. e la confluenza del Fibreno con il Liri, vicino l’Abbazia di San Domenico.
The River Park is a nature trail about 2 km long that connects the center of Isola del Liri with the locality of Vadurso, near the Abbey of San Domenico, on the border with Sora. The route, which runs along the banks of the Liri River, begins in the urban center at Ponte di Roma and continues through a landscaped green area where the Modesto Galante Municipal Library is located, among fountains and installations made from parts of machinery from the old paper mills. From here it is possible to admire the Valcatoio Waterfall, 27 meters high, whose waters partly supply a hydroelectric power plant.
The trail then continues uphill past the former municipal slaughterhouse building, along the slope of San Sebastiano Hill, until it reaches the dam near the Boncompagni-Viscogliosi Castle. From this point, the path splits into two branches. To the right, it crosses dense shrub vegetation along the Liri River to the locality of Remorici, where the remains of the former Ciccodicola wool mill can be found. Continuing on to Viale Barca San Domenico, near the Sora Fairgrounds, it is possible to see the ruins of the Marmone Bridge dating to the 1st century BC and the confluence of the Fibreno River with the Liri, near the Abbey of San Domenico.
