The Emotion of Experiencing Something for the First Time
The first time you experience something, as evidenced by the natural laws of human emotions, you cannot erase it from your mind. There’s a song that goes, “If my life consisted only of beginnings, of the excitement of first-time experiences, when anything can surprise you and nothing really pertains to you”. You are not familiar with Ciociaria. Few people are. Till very recently, inhabitants of the area, when asked, "Where are you from?" would answer "from a town near Rome". They were quite sure that if they named one of the 91 towns that make up Ciociaria, it wouldn't ring a bell. Yet, this heartland, halfway between Rome and Naples, nestled between the seaside in Latina and the mountains in Abruzzo has continued to narrate stories about tangible and intangible aspects of life, weave honest relationships that abound with quarrels, dreams, hopes and conflicts which, like fast-moving clouds, cling to those moments in the lives of people and their land.
There are places that only provide answers to questions you may have, others instead inevitably lead you to ask yourself (and others) what you are looking for. Answers concealed in the most obscure areas of your soul, that only a place you have never seen can hold. The claim “Ciociaria, if you aren't familiar with it, so much the better”, seizes on the shortcomings of the land (e.g., little is known about it and there are no clear boundaries that identify it) and turn them into strong points. These offer the travel market opportunities to discover new, unexplored places, to come into contact with the values of a simple lifestyle, with a love of nature and authentic tradition. These aspects are desirable to Italian tourists living in big cities and are looking for an escape from their hectic lives, but they are just as attractive to foreign visitors who find the true “Italian value” represented in the area.
